Mobile despite restrictions - getting in and out safely

Whether with a rollator, wheelchair or walking aid: we want you to travel comfortably and independently. Boarding our buses, trains and on-call buses is designed so that you can get to your destination easily and safely - even without an accompanying person.

With low-floor vehicles, which are often equipped with lowering technology and barrier-free platforms, boarding and alighting is usually possible without any problems. Special buttons with a wheelchair or baby carriage symbol ensure that automatic doors open for longer. All doors are equipped with anti-trap protection for additional safety.

The following applies on buses and trains: Please speak to other passengers in a friendly manner if multifunctional areas or seats are occupied. Most people will be happy to help you and make room.

Tips for traveling on RNN transport with a wheelchair

Well prepared when traveling - getting on and off safely with a wheelchair

Before the journey:
Allow some time and get your ticket in advance in the DB Navigator. A small time buffer makes changing trains more relaxed.

When boarding:
If you need assistance, give the driver a clear hand signal when approaching that you need the folding ramp at the rear entrance. You will receive reliable assistance.

This will help you get on safely:

  • Stand in a clearly visible position at the bus stop, at least 1 m away from the kerb.
  • Align your wheelchair wheels with the ramp markings; this makes it easier to get on.
  • In the vehicle, stand on the area specially designed for wheelchairs (usually near the door) and secure yourself with the devices provided for this purpose.
  • It is also helpful if you stand on the area with your back to the direction of travel and get out backwards to have a better overview.

When getting off:
Press the button with the wheelchair symbol in good time: preferably directly after the bus stop announcement. This lets the driver know that you want to get off and may need help.
