1. scope of application
1.1 Area of validity of the tariff of the Rhein-Nahe local transport association
The fare regulations apply to the transportation of persons, property and animals on all lines and line sections of the transport companies within the Rhein-Nahe Nahverkehrsverbund (RNN), the spatial delimitation of which is shown in the respective valid honeycomb map (RNN network area). Special features are listed in points 1.2 and 1.3. They are only valid on Deutsche Bahn AG routes on local trains (product class C: IRE, RE, RB, S); deviations from this can be announced in the timetable or on notices.
They do not apply to taxi services; deviations from this can be announced in the timetable or on the notice board.
1.2 Transition area Mainz/Wiesbaden
The transitional area Mainz/Wiesbaden comprises the Großwabe 300 including the special fare area Ebersheim (901). The tariff of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund applies to tickets with origin and destination only within the Großwabe 300 (Mainz/Wiesbaden). For tickets from the rest of the RNN fare zone to Großwabe 300 and vice versa, the RNN fare applies. In the RNN fare, Großwabe 300 is counted as 2 honeycombs.
For tickets from the special fare area Ebersheim (901) only in the direction of or via honeycomb 312, this special fare area is only counted as one honeycomb. For journeys within the Ebersheim special fare zone only, the RMV fare applies unchanged
1.3 Transitional area Alzey/Worms
The Alzey/Worms transition area is shown in color in the honeycomb map. It comprises the honeycombs 350 (except Albig), 360, 361, 362, 364, 370, 372, 374, 375, 377, 380, 381, 383.
For tickets with origin and destination only within the Alzey/Worms transition area, the tariff of the Rhine-Neckar Transport Association (VRN) applies. For tickets from the rest of the RNN fare zone to this transition area and vice versa, the RNN fare applies.
2. tariff system
For pricing purposes, the tariff area is divided into area zones (honeycombs). The honeycombs are identified by honeycomb numbers.
3. fare
3.1 Fare calculation
Fares and their levels are shown on the fare table. The fare is based on the number of honeycombs actually traveled through. This also applies to journeys to destinations within a honeycomb that can only be reached via another honeycomb.
Honeycombs that are touched several times during the journey are only charged once when calculating the fare.
If a journey begins or ends at a stop that lies on a honeycomb border, this stop counts as part of the honeycomb to which the journey leads or from which the journey originates.
If a day ticket is purchased on a fare zone boundary, the starting zone is determined by the zone to which the first journey leads.
If 10 or more honeycombs are traveled through and purchased according to the RNN fare, the ticket is valid as a network ticket for the entire RNN area, including the transition areas mentioned under point 1, unless otherwise specified. When purchasing a season ticket for price level 10, "RNN network" or "network" can also be entered instead of the honeycomb numbers.
Deviations from these principles are regulated in Annex 8 Detour journeys.
3.2 Other principles
In the season ticket area, several routes can be used between the starting point and destination if the number of honeycombs is the same. The routes that can be used are to be indicated on the ticket by entering the corresponding honeycomb numbers (so-called super-honeycombs). If the number of honeycombs differs, the longer route must be paid for. The honeycombs passed through during the journey must always be adjacent to each other.
3.3 Entering/exiting traffic in the Mainz/Wiesbaden large honeycomb
For traffic from or to Großwaben, two honeycombs are always charged for the Großwaben.
3.4 Children
The children's fares shown in the fare table apply to children aged 6 to 14 inclusive.
Children under the age of 6 are only transported free of charge if accompanied by a supervisor with a valid ticket. A supervisor can take up to 3 children under 6 years of age free of charge. Otherwise, the fare for children must be paid. Deviations from these provisions are listed in the respective ticket regulations.
For groups of children (e.g. kindergarten groups), a fare must also be paid for children aged 3 and over. For kindergarten groups, see also 9.3 "Group day ticket for kindergarten groups".

6. multi-ride tickets
Multi-journey tickets are sold exclusively in digital form via cell phone ticket apps that sell the RNN fare (such as the DB Navigator at present) and in accordance with Annex 3 to the RNN Common Conditions of Carriage.
With each purchase, 5 multiple-journey tickets (segments) are purchased, with the first segment being validated directly. All further sections can be held in stock and must be validated before departure. Individual sections are not sold. All sections purchased are valid within the same price level. They can be used by several customers at the same time, whereby one segment must be validated per customer and journey. There are no refunds for unused sections of the multi-ride ticket. In the event of price changes, multiple-journey tickets remain valid for six months after the date of the price change.

In deviation from the 14-day pre-notification based on the SEPA Direct Debit Scheme, a pre-notification period of two days is agreed for the execution of direct debits. The mandate reference based on the SEPA Direct Debit Scheme will be communicated with/before the first direct debit or as part of the pre-notification. Participation in the direct debit authorization procedure/SEPA direct debit procedure may be refused in the event of insufficient creditworthiness. The contractual partner is the account holder stated on the order form. The respective fare is debited monthly in advance from a current account at a bank based in Germany.
The subscription can be started on the 1st of any month if the order form with direct debit authorization is submitted by the 15th of the previous month.
The subscription contract is concluded when the ticket is sent or handed over. 12 monthly tickets are issued at the subscription price. The customer must check the tickets issued for correctness and completeness. Complaints must be reported immediately to the issuing office.
The subscription is valid for at least 12 months. If it is not terminated, it will be extended indefinitely and the customer will be sent further tickets valid for up to one year without being asked.

This does not apply if the customer is deceased.
In the event of price changes, the monthly amounts will be adjusted from the time of the change. At the time of the price change, extraordinary termination is possible at the end of the month in which the price change is duly announced. In this case, no additional charges will be levied. The right to ordinary termination remains unaffected by this.
The ticket(s) must be sent to the issuing office by registered mail or handed in personally no later than 5 days after the date of termination. In the event of late return, the transportation fee may be charged for the period up to the return to the issuing office.
If the ticket(s) is/are not returned, the payment obligation continues until the time for which the ticket(s) was/are issued.
15.3.3 Direct debit
The customer undertakes to keep the monthly direct debit amount available in the designated account at the beginning of each month.
If a timely direct debit is not possible under these conditions, in particular due to insufficient funds in the account, non-recognized SEPA direct debit procedure, revoked SEPA direct debit mandate, the transport company may terminate the contract after unsuccessful written request for payment. Cancellation invalidates any tickets purchased and must be returned to the transport company immediately by registered mail or in person. Any costs incurred by the transport company shall be borne by the customer.
The provisions on recalculation when canceling a season ticket (paragraph 15.3.2.) apply analogously.
15.3.4 Change of account, change of residence

16.4 School transportation costs
16.4.1 General provisions
If the travel costs for pupils of general education or vocational schools are covered in whole or in part by the school travel costs provider, the issue and invoicing of the annual school travel passes is regulated in a separate contract with the school travel costs provider. The contract must be concluded with the company that operates the transportation from the place of residence (or district, if applicable). The contract is concluded for a period of one year. It is automatically extended after expiry unless it is terminated by one of the contracting parties three months before the start of the new school year. Annual school travel passes issued by the school transport providers are valid without a separate authorization card. They are issued personally and must be signed indelibly by the holder with their full name. Annual school travel passes are issued for a period of validity from August 1 to July 31 of the following year.
16.4.2 Issue, billing
For annual school travelcards issued via the school transport providers, monthly payments in the amount of the season ticket price are to be made to the transport company with which the contract in accordance with paragraph 16.4.1. exists. This transport company is the issuing office within the meaning of the transport and fare regulations.
If the purchase of an annual school travelcard via the school transportation provider begins within a school year, the monthly subscription price shall be applied for each month or part thereof in which the travelcard can still be used up to the end of the next school year.
The other provisions for annual tickets for educational transportation and the subscription procedure apply analogously. If individual tickets are canceled, there will be no recalculation on a monthly ticket basis.
17. season tickets for special target groups
17.1 RNN JobTicket
RNN JobTickets can be issued to members of groups who all belong to one company (including any subsidiaries) or institution.
The group must have at least 50 members. Further details are regulated in a contract with the purchaser (company, institution), which regulates the payment of a flat-rate basic amount per group member/employee and the optional issue of the RNN Job Ticket. The customer is jointly and severally liable for the basic amount to be paid.
The RNN JobTicket user may be charged a processing fee for the processing costs of issuing the ticket, which is regulated in the framework agreement with the customer. The processing fee is payable at the beginning of the participation relationship and thereafter annually every 12 months.
17.1.2 Validity
The RNN JobTicket is a personal, non-transferable season ticket as a monthly subscription, which is valid from the first day of the calendar month at midnight to the last day of the calendar month at midnight. RNN JobTickets are valid for any number of journeys in the entire RNN network area, including the transitional areas mentioned under point 1.
The rules for taking season tickets with you apply in accordance with 10.5.
17.1.3 Duration and termination of participation in the RNN JobTicket
The duration of the participation relationship for the authorized customer is one calendar month. The participation relationship is automatically extended for an indefinite period.
A temporary interruption of the participation relationship is not permitted.
During participation, the passenger receives one or more ticket media, the validity of which may extend beyond the current month. If the ticket media have expired, the passenger will receive one or more new ticket media if the participation relationship continues.
The participation relationship can be terminated in writing at any time. The termination shall take effect at the end of the month in which it was issued. Ticket media issued must be sent to the issuing office by registered mail or returned in person no later than 5 days after the termination date. If the RNN JobTicket user cancels and returns the ticket media late, the RNN JobTicket price will be charged until the end of the month in which the return is made. Issued ticket media that expire at the time of termination do not have to be returned.
If the RNN JobTicket user leaves the ordering group (company, subsidiary, institution), their participation relationship ends at the next possible end of the month. If the contract between the purchaser and RNN is terminated, the entitlement to use the RNN JobTicket for all group members/employees expires at the end of the calendar month at the end of which the contract was terminated. Ticket media issued must be sent to the issuing office by registered mail or returned in person no later than 5 days after the end of the participation relationship. In these cases, late return of the ticket media will result in an additional charge at the currently valid monthly price of the annual season ticket in the subscription system (price level for the network). It will be charged until the end of the month in which it is returned.
Otherwise, in the event of loss, the tariff provisions applicable to personal annual season tickets shall apply.
17.2 SemesterTicket
By concluding a contract, the RNN can grant students of universities and universities of applied sciences the right to use the public transportation services within the area of validity of the RNN. The student ID card valid for the semester in conjunction with an official photo ID or the corresponding student ID card as a chip card with photo is recognized as a ticket (SemesterTicket). The SemesterTicket is non-transferable and does not entitle the holder to take additional persons with them. The amount of the fee to be paid for the use of transportation services is agreed in the contract. A fare is not shown on the SemesterTicket. No refunds will be granted for tickets not used in full or in part.
RNN SemesterTickets are valid throughout the entire RNN network area, including the transitional areas mentioned under point 1.
17.3 RNN semester ticket upgrade to D-Ticket (D-Ticket Campus)
After concluding an upgrade supplementary agreement to the semester ticket agreement between RNN GmbH and the universities in the RNN area, students of participating universities who pay the RNN semester fee for the RNN semester ticket can order the Deutschland-Ticket as an upgrade in accordance with section 10.6. against crediting of the RNN semester fee and payment of the remaining difference. In this case, 1/6 of the RNN semester fee is taken as the basis for the crediting. If the universities in the RNN have concluded further solidarity price agreements for adjacent areas or routes, these can also be included in the credit. The upgrade to the Deutschland-Ticket is only available as a HandyTicket and expires automatically at the end of each semester or at the latest until the supplementary contract with the respective university is terminated. The details of distribution, eligibility checks and pricing are set out in the supplementary upgrade contract.
17.4 Germany semester ticket
The Germany Semester Ticket can be offered to students as a joint Germany Semester Ticket on the basis of a semester ticket contract. The fare for the Germany semester ticket is 60% of the fare for the regular Germany ticket. Details on the obligation to purchase, exemption from payment and reimbursement can be found in the Germany semester ticket contract. The price valid for a semester is the pro rata price of the Deutschlandticket, which is specified eight months before the start of the semester for each month of the semester in the tariff regulations for the Deutschlandticket. The Deutschlandticket has a fixed term for the respective semester and cannot be terminated on a monthly basis.
18. replacement of lost or damaged tickets

For the use of 1st class with season tickets, the surcharge specified in the price list must be paid.
The provisions of the corresponding ticket type apply analogously to the respective surcharges. The regulations for taking along season tickets also apply to 1st class season tickets.

Connecting tickets
1. connecting tickets for season tickets
1.1 If the holder of an RNN season ticket wishes to travel beyond its area of validity to adjoining honeycombs, connecting tickets must be purchased for the honeycombs not covered. Connecting tickets can be one-way tickets, day tickets, weekly, monthly and annual tickets as well as weekly, monthly and annual tickets for educational travel. The connecting ticket must be purchased before the start of the journey or within the area of validity of the underlying season ticket. The connecting ticket is only valid in conjunction with the season ticket for which it has been purchased.
1.2 No connecting tickets will be issued for tickets as per Annex 2 and Annex 3.
1.3 The price level of the connecting ticket is based on the distance traveled between the honeycomb boundary of the area of validity of the season ticket and the destination of the onward journey. Paragraph 3.1. applies accordingly to the fare calculation. Validity and carriage regulations are governed by the provisions for the time ticket used and the connecting ticket separately.
1.4 If the price levels of the RNN season ticket and RNN connecting ticket add up to 10 (honeycombs), then the RNN season ticket and RNN connecting ticket are valid together throughout the entire network (connecting network effect). Price levels 21, 31 and 41 each count as one honeycomb under this rule; price level 23 counts as 2 honeycombs.
1.5 For journeys in the opposite direction, the above regulations apply accordingly.
1.6 The above connection regulations apply mutatis mutandis to certain types of season tickets of the neighboring transport associations Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund and Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar if these season tickets are valid for at least 7 days and they cover the respective fare zones directly adjacent to the RNN. Individual types of season tickets of these transport associations can be exempted from this connection regulation by order.
2. connecting tickets to SemesterTickets (RNN connecting SemesterTicket)
2.1 Students with a valid (basic) SemesterTicket from neighboring RNN transport associations (RMV, saarVV, VRN, VRM) can purchase an RNN connecting SemesterTicket as a personal half-year ticket with a photo. Proof of eligibility must be provided at the time of purchase.
2.2 The RNN Connection Semester Ticket entitles the holder to travel for the duration of the period stated on the RNN Connection Semester Ticket throughout the entire fare zone of the RNN area, including the transitional area stated under point 1.2, but excluding the Alzey Worms transitional area. The RNN AnschlussSemesterTicket is also valid on the Bacharach-Oberwesel route in combination with the VRM-wide SemesterTicket. It is valid for a maximum of one semester (6 months) and ends at the latest on the date printed on the (basic) SemesterTicket. The RNN connecting semester ticket is only valid together with the student ID card or the underlying (basic) semester ticket. The RNN Connection SemesterTicket is not transferable and does not entitle you to take additional persons with you. The use of 1st carriage class and long-distance trains is not possible, even if an additional payment is made.
2.3 The price for the RNN Connection SemesterTicket is shown in the price list.
2.4 The RNN Connection Semester Ticket can be purchased either in cash against a single payment at certain points of sale or by direct debit of the total amount if a direct debit authorization has been issued.

(2) In the cases referred to in paragraph 1, double the fare shall be charged, but at least the legally stipulated fine. The fare may be calculated according to the starting point of the route if the passenger cannot prove the distance traveled. The staff will issue a receipt for the amount paid, which is valid as a ticket until the passenger leaves the vehicle. For the onward journey, the transport company may sell a valid ticket in accordance with the fare regulations.
(3) If the increased fare cannot be paid immediately, the passenger will receive a request for payment after his or her personal details have been established. The increased fare must be paid to the transport company within one week. A processing fee of EUR 5 shall be charged for each written request for payment, unless the passenger can prove that a processing fee of this amount has not been incurred or at least a significantly lower amount.
(4) In the case of paragraph 1 no. 2, the increased fare shall be reduced to EUR 7.00 if the passenger proves to the administration of the transport company within one week of the day of the determination that he/she was the holder of a valid personal season ticket at the time of the determination.
(5) The use of invalid season tickets shall not affect any further claims of the operator.
§ 10 Refund of transportation charges
(1) If a ticket is not used for the journey, the fare will be refunded on request on presentation of the ticket. The passenger is responsible for the non-use of the ticket.
(2) The fare for one-way tickets, multiple-journey tickets and day tickets shall not be refunded unless the transport company is responsible for the non-use or partial use.
(3) If a season ticket is not used or only partially used, the fare will be refunded pro rata. The following will be deducted per day of use
- 25% for a weekly period of validity
- 5% for a monthly period of validity
- 1/30 of the fare converted to monthly installments for annual validity.
The refund amount is rounded down to full euro amounts. The date of return or deposit of the ticket or the date of the postmark of the mailing is decisive for the subsequent calculation. An earlier date can only be taken into account if a certificate from a doctor, hospital or health insurance company confirming the passenger's incapacity to travel or death is presented. The customer bears the risk of loss when shipping.
Annual tickets will only be refunded in the event of illness lasting more than 7 days associated with an inability to travel. This must be proven by a medical certificate or a certificate from a hospital. A refund is only possible if the annual pass has been returned, deposited or sent.
(4) The cut-off period for applications for reimbursement is three months.
(5) The transport company may deduct a processing fee and transfer fees from the amount to be refunded, unless the company is responsible for the non-use or partial use.
(6) In the event of exclusion from transportation in accordance with § 3, there is no entitlement to a refund.
§ 11 Transportation of goods
(1) There is no entitlement to the transportation of objects. Hand luggage and other items will only be carried if the passenger is traveling at the same time and only if this does not endanger the safety and order of the operation and does not inconvenience other passengers.
In addition, special conditions apply to the admission of bicycles and e-scooters for carriage, which are attached in the corresponding annexes (see Annex 1 and Annex 2 to the RNN Common Conditions of Carriage).
(2) Dangerous objects and substances are excluded from carriage, in particular explosive, highly flammable, radioactive, foul-smelling or corrosive substances, unpackaged or unprotected objects that could injure passengers, and objects that protrude beyond the boundaries of the carriage.
(3) Where possible, staff shall ensure that baby carriages for accompanying children and wheelchairs for disabled passengers can be carried.
(4) Passengers must store and supervise their belongings in such a way that the safety and order of the operation is not endangered and other passengers are not inconvenienced. The passenger is liable for any damage caused by improper storage.
(5) The staff shall decide on a case-by-case basis whether items are permitted for transportation and where they are to be stored.
§ 12 Transportation of animals
(1) Section 11 (1), (4) and (5) shall apply mutatis mutandis to the carriage of animals.
(2) Dogs shall only be transported under the supervision of a suitable person. Dogs that could endanger passengers must wear a muzzle.
(3) Guide dogs accompanying a blind person are always permitted for transportation.
(4) Other animals may only be carried in suitable containers.
(5) Animals may not be accommodated on seats.
§ 13 Lost property
(1) Lost property must be handed over to the staff immediately in accordance with § 978 BGB. Lost property will be returned to the loser by the company's lost and found office against payment of a fee for storage. Immediate return to the loser by the company staff is permitted if the loser can identify himself/herself as the loser. The loser must confirm receipt in writing upon request.
(2) Otherwise, the respective provisions of the transport company shall apply.
§ 14 Liability
(1) The transport company is liable for the death or injury of a passenger and for damage to property that the passenger is carrying or carrying with them, in accordance with the generally applicable provisions. Liability for damage to property is limited to EUR 1,000 per person transported.
The limitation of liability does not apply if the damage to property is due to intent or gross negligence. However, in the event of loss of or damage to wheelchairs and other mobility aids or assistive devices caused by the entrepreneur, the compensation shall cover at least the replacement value or repair costs of the lost or damaged equipment or devices.
(2) The transport company is liable for the loss of or damage to unaccompanied items up to a maximum of 50 euros.
§ 15 Statute of limitations
(1) The limitation period for claims arising from the contract of carriage shall be the regular limitation period pursuant to BGB § 195. The limitation period shall commence when the claim arises.
(2) Otherwise, the limitation period shall be governed by the general provisions.
§ 16 Exclusion of claims for compensation
Deviations from timetables due to traffic obstructions, operational disruptions or interruptions as well as lack of space and incorrect information do not justify any claims for compensation. There is also no guarantee that connections will be adhered to.
§ 17 Passenger rights
(1) For journeys on rail trains, the rights and obligations of passengers under Regulation (EU) No. 2021/782 of the European Parliament and of the Council on rail passengers' rights and obligations and under the Railway Traffic Regulations (EVO) are also conclusively regulated for ticket holders under this network tariff in the Conditions of Carriage (CC) of the respective contractual carrier(s) (carrier). Carriers are the railroad undertakings with which the passenger has concluded the contract of carriage. If the carriage can be provided by several carriers at the passenger's choice, the contract of carriage is concluded with the carrier(s) whose carriage service the passenger actually uses. If the passenger uses a different train than scheduled due to a delay or cancellation, the carrier whose train chosen by the passenger was canceled or delayed shall be responsible for the consequences of the delay or cancellation.
(2) These regulations only apply to tickets according to the RNN-Verbundtarif that are used for rail travel.
(3) Passenger rights arising from delays shall only become effective if the cause and effect of the delay occurred in the area of the actual or planned rail transportation. There is no entitlement to fare compensation if delays, missed connections or train cancellations can be proven to have occurred due to or in connection with the following circumstances:
- Extraordinary circumstances outside of railroad operations, such as extreme weather conditions, major natural disasters or serious public health crises, which the railroad undertaking was unable to avoid and the consequences of which it was unable to avert despite exercising the care required in the circumstances of the case,
- fault of the passenger or
- conduct of a third party, such as trespassing on the tracks, cable theft, emergencies on the train, law enforcement measures, sabotage or terrorism, which the railroad undertaking was unable to avoid and the consequences of which it was unable to avert despite exercising due care in the circumstances of the case.
(4) Compensation payments of less than EUR 4 shall not be paid.
(5) Claims under the railroad regulations can be made directly to the railroad undertakings. Reimbursement forms are available from the RNN, the railroad companies or from the

or via the Internet at: www.fahrgastrechte.info
(6) Applications for fare compensation and refunds can be made within three months of the incident to which the application relates.
§ 18 Place of jurisdiction
The place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising from the respective transportation contract is the registered office of the respective transport company with which the transportation contract exists.

The transportation of passengers, wheelchairs and baby carriages has priority. In cases of doubt, the train crew will make a binding decision regarding the carriage of bicycles.
- Bicycles are carried at the passenger's own risk. The transport company accepts no liability for damage to the bicycle.
Special conditions for the carriage of electric scooters (Annex to Section 11 (1) of the Conditions of Carriage)
- E-scooters with a total weight of less than 15 kg and a length of less than 115 cm and a wheel size of no more than 9 inches are considered hand luggage within the meaning of § 11 Para. 1 when folded and can be carried free of charge on public transport.

For a cell phone ticket, a valid official photo ID is required for personalization and must be presented at the request of the ticket inspector. The purchase of tickets as cell phone tickets must be completed before entering the vehicle. If the purchase by cell phone is only requested via the cell phone ticket software after entering the vehicle, this is considered a journey without a valid ticket with the consequence that an increased fare will be charged in accordance with § 9 of the Conditions of Carriage. The inspection staff is entitled to ask the passenger to show the complete ticket shown on the display of the cell phone. One-way tickets purchased as cell phone tickets are considered validated from the time of purchase.
