General information

The D-Ticket is a ticket valid throughout Germany. Since May 1, 2023, it has been available for a monthly price of 58 euros and entitles the holder to use all local public transport. The ticket is personal and non-transferable.

The ticket is valid throughout Germany for all public transport and regional transport in 2nd class. Long-distance travel (IC, EC and ICE) is excluded.

The D-Ticket is valid for a full calendar month and is always automatically renewed for the following month. You can cancel your subscription by the 10th of each month to the end of the month.

The D-Ticket is only sold as a season ticket. However, this subscription can be canceled on a monthly basis. If you already have a season ticket for the RNN, you will receive information about your options for changing to the D-Ticket in good time.

Yes, the D-Ticket is also available for children. Under-18s can take out the subscription via the RNN D-Ticket app. A legal representative is required to conclude the contract. Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge on public transport in Germany.

No. Due to the fact that the offer is heavily subsidized by the federal and state governments, no further concessions are planned.

The tariff regulations of the German tariff, the regional tariffs, transport associations and transport companies apply to the carriage of bicycles. If bicycle transport is free of charge on the route used or in the fare zone being traveled through at the time of travel, this also applies to the D-Ticket. If a bicycle ticket is required, this also applies to the D-Ticket.

In the RNN area, travel by bicycle is free from 9 a.m. from Monday to Friday and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Before 9 a.m., you need a single Child ticket to travel with your bicycle.

No. The D-Ticket is issued personally (so it is not transferable) and does not have a carry-on rule. In this respect, it differs significantly from the RNN Jedermann season tickets and the RNN JobTicket.

Purchase of the Germany ticket

The D-Ticket is only available as a digital cell phone ticket or as a chip card.

Digital: In the RNN you can get the ticket as a cell phone ticket via our RNN D-Ticket app. The following payment methods are available in the app: Credit card and PayPal.
Note: when paying by credit card, the 3D-Secure procedure must be used. This is a security method for online card payments. Via an additional authentication level, you will be redirected to your bank's website during the payment process to confirm the transaction. Approval is given, for example, via a push notification in a banking app - e.g. with a fingerprint or PIN -, an SMS TAN or another security feature specified by the provider. It is not possible to pay for the RNN D-Ticket by credit card without using this procedure.

Chip card: Mainzer Mobilität, KRN, ESWE and DB Regio Bus Mitte currently offer the D-Ticket in the form of a chip card.

Children under the age of 18 can create an account in their own name and also purchase the regular D-Ticket at a price of 58 euros. To enter the payment details, a contact e-mail address of a parent or guardian is required in the app. An email will then be sent to this address with a link to enter the payment details. It is therefore not possible to view the payment data directly in the profile of the under-18s and therefore no other use is possible.

No. You can't buy the D-Ticket directly from a ticket machine or at a point of sale. You can order easily and conveniently in our new RNN D-Ticket app.

In the RNN, the following transport companies currently offer the D-Ticket as a chip card:

  • KRN Kommunalverkehr Rhein-Nahe: If you would like to purchase the D-Ticket as a chip card, you can order it at the KRN customer center in Bad Kreuznach and on the KRN website.
  • DB Regio Bus Mitte/ORN: If you would like to purchase the ticket as a chip card, you can order it on the DB Regio Bus Mitte website.
  • Mainzer Mobilität: If you would like to purchase the D-Ticket as a chip card, you can fill out an online form on their website & apply directly for the D-Ticket as a subscription. The application must be received by MVG by the 10th of the previous month. You can submit the completed application as an online form, as a paper application in person, by post (RMV-Mobilitäts-Beratung im Verkehrs Center Mainz, Bahnhofplatz 6a, 55116 Mainz) or by e-mail (verkehrscenter@mainzer-mobilitaet.de).

If you have ordered the D-Ticket via the RNN D-Ticket app, you can cancel it in the app by the 10th of each month to the end of the month. Anyone who has ordered the D-Ticket as a chip card must contact the respective point of sale to find out how to cancel the D-Ticket.

There will probably not be a corresponding offer on a nationwide level. Customers are encouraged to use the regional 1st class offers. This means that the 1st class ticket required depends on the route used.

If the desired connection is within the RNN network area, our regular "1st class supplement" tickets can be purchased.

Information for JobTicket users

The D-Ticket Job is a discounted D-Ticket that benefits employees whose employer has concluded a D-Ticket Job contract with the RNN.

Approach your employer and ask whether they have already concluded a D-Ticket Job contract with the RNN. If so, you can purchase your D-Ticket Job immediately or at an agreed later date via the RNN D-Ticket App.

No. If the existing framework agreement for the RNN-JobTicket is terminated, all active JobTickets from the employer are automatically canceled. You will be informed of this and must return your ticket to DB Vertrieb by registered mail within five days of the termination date.

No, an automatic adjustment is not possible. You must cancel your regular D-Ticket for 58 euros per month by the 10th of the respective month at the end of the month and purchase the D-Ticket Job from us in the RNN D-Ticket app.

Once you have logged in to the RNN D-Ticket app, the booking view appears on your smartphone. At the top is the regular D-Ticket, below the D-Ticket Job in a white box. To order the D-Ticket Job you have to click on it.

Information for students

No, the semester ticket remains valid only for the current area of validity.

Students now have the option of upgrading their SemesterTicket to a D-Ticket for an additional charge. You can buy your D-Ticket upgrade digitally as a HandyTicket. The personalized HandyTicket is only valid in combination with the valid "basic" SemesterTicket.

The D-Ticket Upgrade is now available at the following universities:

- Catholic University of Applied Sciences Mainz

- CBS International Business School - Mainz Campus

- IU International University - Mainz Campus

- Environmental Campus Birkenfeld and at the Department of Gemstone and Jewelry Design at Trier University of Applied Sciences in Neubrücke and Idar-Oberstein

Note: You will receive all further information on acquiring the upgrade from your university.

Notes for students

Yes, if pupils are currently already provided with a ticket by the district, a D-Ticket will probably be automatically provided as a chip card for the new school year (from September) instead of an RNN season ticket for education.

For the city price levels in Bingen, Idar-Oberstein and Ingelheim, the issue of the D-Ticket is currently still being examined.

It is expected that from the start of the new school year in September, pupils will automatically receive the D-Ticket as a chip card from their respective district, provided they are entitled to receive school travel cards.

We will provide information on the exact details of distribution in due course.

First, you must cancel your travelcard with your transport company by the 15th of the previous month. Please then return your remaining monthly passes after the end of the contract (deadline: 5 days). You can then buy your ticket in the RNN-D-Ticket app. If you are under 18 years of age, your legal guardian must make the payment for you.

Notes on using the RNN D-Ticket app

The RNN D-Ticket app provides a cancellation option, which can now be found in the menu under "Cancel subscription". If the menu in the app does not (yet) show this option, please update the app in the relevant app store to get the latest version. Please use this termination option. Once you have canceled, you will receive an e-mail with the cancellation date.

If the form of address, personal details or your ID number are incorrect, you can still use the D-Ticket. You can be clearly identified by comparing your first name, surname and date of birth with a photo ID, even if the form of address is incorrect.

You can use our contact form and submit your request to change the incorrect data.

A further update will make it possible to change the form of address. We will inform you about this in the RNN newsletter.

If the D-Ticket was issued in the RNN D-Ticket app in the form of a barcode, you can tap on the barcode and find the name of the ticket user, the date of birth, the variant (D-Ticket or D-Ticket Job) and the date of the first day of validity on the "back". The dates are entered in the order year - month - day. Tapping the page again switches back to the barcode.

In the app, the ticket is always issued in the name (and personal details) entered in the app registration process.

This also applies to underage ticket users. In this case, the contact details of a parent or legal guardian must be entered during the ordering process, who will then take over the payment and act as the contractual partner.

To register for a new cell phone, all you have to do is enter your e-mail address. The app then recognizes whether it is an existing account. If available, the active barcode will be displayed after logging in.

If you receive a reminder, it is best to check the means of payment data by changing the payment data. This is set as follows:

  • Open the app menu (three dots at the top right)
  • Select "Settings"
  • Select "Change payment"
  • Click on the "Change" button in the "Your payment details" section
  • Follow the dialog boxes

If you do not pay the outstanding amount after receiving the warning, the ticket will be automatically blocked.

As the D-Ticket is a subscription in an app, you can easily log on to another smartphone with your e-mail and password.

Your FRITZ card must be returned to the relevant transport company for a refund.

If you have purchased your D-ticket for the coming month, the barcode will not be displayed until the beginning of the new month.

Please make sure that you have the new version on your smartphone or update the app if necessary. Then follow the steps below:

  • Open the app menu (three dots top right)
  • Click on "log out"
  • The login view will then appear
  • Log in here again with your access data
