The RNN network area is divided into honeycombs, which are used to classify the price levels. To find out in which price level you need to buy your ticket for the desired route, simply count all the honeycombs you travel through from your starting point to your destination. The number of honeycombs gives you the price level - it's as simple as that.
Forexample: For a journey from Bärweiler (honeycomb 422) to Bad Sobernheim (honeycomb 420) you cross 2 honeycombs, so you need a ticket of price level 2. Now simply look in the price table of the ticket you want - e.g. one-way ticket, day ticket or monthly ticket Jedermann - and find the exact price.
You should know this:
- Honeycombs that you travel through several times only count once.
- If the destination is in the same honeycomb as the starting point, but can only be reached via another honeycomb, this honeycomb also counts. The same applies to detours.
- If towns, districts or stations lie on the border between two honeycombs, they will count towards one or the other honeycomb depending on the direction of travel. In our example, Meddersheim from Bärweiler belongs to honeycomb 422, from Bad Sobernheim to honeycomb 420.
- The Mainz/Wiesbaden large honeycomb counts as 2 honeycombs.
Means of transport included
With the tickets of the RNN network fare, you can use all city and regional buses, streetcars and local trains (regional express, regional train, S-Bahn) in the areas of validity you have purchased, which you can see on your ticket and on the RNN honeycomb map. For call cabs, the timetables indicate whether the RNN network fare applies. The RNN fare does not apply on ferries - with the exception of the ferry cooperation described in the cooperation fare section.
With tickets for the RMV/RNN interchange fare, you can use all city, regional and express bus lines as well as all trams and subway trains and local trains (regional express, regional rail, S-Bahn) in the areas of validity you have purchased, which are shown on the RMV/RNN interchange fare area map (see cooperation fare).
Fare regulations
All information on RNN tickets on the RNN website and in the fare brochures serves as a non-binding description for general orientation. Only the original text of the fare regulations and conditions of carriage of the RNN tariff in the current version is legally binding.
The fare regulations of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) apply to the RMV/RNN transfer fare. These can be found on the RMV website www.rmv.de under Tickets > Fare regulations.
Means of transport included
You can use the following means of transport within the area of validity you have purchased with tickets for the RNN fare network:
- all city and regional buses
- streetcars
- local trains (regional express, regional train, S-Bahn)
For call cabs, the timetables indicate whether the RNN network fare applies. With the exception of the ferry cooperation described in the fare regulations , the RNN fare does not apply on ferries.
The RMV/RNN transition fare
In certain areas between Rheinhessen-Nahe and the Rhine-Main area, the RMV/RNN transfer fare applies. The big advantage for you: you can use all public transport in both areas with just one ticket!

You should know this:
For journeys from the blue areas (RNN) to the green areas (RMV) and vice versa, you can use the RMV/RNN transfer fare. This means you buy one ticket and can use it to travel across the borders of the respective transport association.
For journeys to and from Wiesbaden/Mainz (RNN-Wabe 300 or RMV tariff area 65), marked in light gray in the diagram, the RMV tariff (direction South and Central Hesse) or RNN tariff (direction Rheinhessen-Nahe) is used depending on the destination.
You can use the following means of transport with the RMV/RNN transitional fare tickets in the areas of validity you have purchased, which are shown on the RMV/RNN transitional fare map:
- all city, regional and express bus lines
- all trams and subway trains
- local trains (Regionalexpress, Regionalbahn, S-Bahn
House tariffs
As soon as you cross the network boundaries by bus or train and neither the network fare nor a transfer fare applies, the in-house fares of one or more transport companies are used. From within the RNN network area, there is the KRN in-house tariff and the joint in-house tariff of Scherer-Reisen and NVB Birkenfeld. These are used exclusively by the respective transport company.
