The digital displays provide passengers with up-to-date information on departure times, delays and last-minute changes to bus services in real time. They are part of a series of over 30 new DFI displays that are being installed throughout the RNN region as part of a large-scale funding project. DFI stands for Dynamic Passenger Information. The digital displays process current operating data from the vehicles and thus always keep passengers up to date with the next connections.
Silke Meyer, Managing Director of RNN, emphasizes the importance of the project: "The expansion of our bus networks has already significantly improved public transport connections. Now we are taking the next step and also making passenger information more digital. The new DFI displays in Meisenheim show that we are also visibly advancing public transport away from the major centers."
Bettina Dickes, District Administrator of the Bad Kreuznach district, emphasizes: "With the new DFI displays in Meisenheim, Bad Kreuznach, Langenlonsheim and Staudernheim, we are sending a strong signal for modern mobility provision throughout the district. The digitalization of local transport is also making progress in the smaller towns and municipalities. For rural areas in particular, it is crucial that bus travel becomes convenient and plannable, making it a real alternative to the car for more and more people."
Reinhold Rabung, Mayor of Meisenheim, is delighted with the premiere: "The DFI displays are an enrichment for our town. At last, our citizens and everyone who uses the bus in Meisenheim can see directly at the bus stop when the next bus is coming - and whether there may be delays. This creates planning security and makes local public transport much more attractive."
The entire project is being supported by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate with half a million euros as part of the funding program for the real-time initiative in public transport. In addition to Meisenheim, other locations in the Bad Kreuznach district will also benefit from the funding: four new DFI displays will be installed in the town of Bad Kreuznach, with further locations in Langenlonsheim and Staudernheim.
