The first step is a fundamental simplification of the season pass system: Instead of numerous price tiers and fare combinations, there will be clearly structured weekly, monthly, and annual passes with uniform prices. At the same time, the validity of all season passes will be extended to the entire RNN network area.
“People want mobility that just works,” explains Silke Meyer, Managing Director of the RNN. “With the fare update, we are therefore creating our simplest season pass system to date. Going forward, the motto will be: one network area—one price. The previous differentiation based on price tiers and travel distances is a thing of the past. This will make using buses and trains easier, more transparent, and more flexible for our passengers than ever before.”
In the future, the previous system of zones and price tiers will be eliminated for season tickets. The offering will focus on weekly, monthly, and annual passes in both the “general public” and “student” segments. A uniform flat rate will apply to each ticket type, regardless of the distance traveled. The tried-and-true 9 a.m. fare option will also remain in place. The 9 a.m. monthly and annual passes will now be valid throughout the entire transit network and are aimed specifically at passengers who primarily travel outside of peak hours.
The following prices will apply starting August 1, 2026:
- Jedermann Weekly: €33.50
- “Jedermann” Monthly Pass: €110.50
- Everyone Annual Pass: €92.10 per month
- “Jedermann” Monthly 9 a.m.: €74.00
- Everyone Annual Subscription (9 a.m.): 61.70 € per month
- Training Weekly: €25.10
- Training Monthly: €82.90
- Student Annual Pass: €69.10 per month
With the fare update, the validity of all season passes will be extended to cover the entire RNN network area. Passengers will thus be able to use buses and trains flexibly in the cities of Mainz and Wiesbaden, as well as in the districts of Mainz-Bingen, Bad Kreuznach, and Birkenfeld, and in the northern part of the Alzey-Worms district.
With this fare reform, the RNN is responding to changing conditions in public transit. Demand for traditional season passes has declined significantly since the introduction of the Deutschland-Ticket. With this realignment, the RNN is adapting its services to this trend. The result is a transparent fare structure with clear added value: In the “Jedermann” category, season passes remain transferable in the same way as before and continue to offer a companion policy for one adult and all of their own children for monthly and annual passes.
For now, the reform will not affect occasional travel with single-ride and day passes. The existing zone and fare tier system will continue to apply here. The RNN also plans a gradual simplification of this system, scheduled for 2027.
